As a public sector tenant you may be able to buy your home under the ‘Right to Buy’ scheme, at a price lower than the full market value.
This is because the length of time you have spent as a tenant entitles you to a discount.
The rules and regulations which would apply to you depend on the date you became a public sector tenant, for instance:
- If you have taken up a tenancy before 18 January 2005, after a period of two years you may have the right to buy.
- If you became a tenant on or after 18 January 2005, you have to be a tenant for at least five years before you can exercise the right to buy.
